Besiktas Shipyard has been granted ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 10002 and ISO 45001 certificates by Bureau Veritas.
The shipyard has been built and managed with maximum respect to human health, safety and environmental protection. Besiktas Shipyard is one of the best established ship building and ship repair yards of Turkey with proven experience in building specialized ships such as chemical tankers and LPG carriers up to 26.000 dwt. The safety managers of the shipyard visit regularly several well-established shipyards all around the world in order to improve the safety and environmental practices. Safety is one of Besiktas Shipyard’s main assets. The Shipyard has HSE Department within the organization of the shipyard management. HSE Department has 12 inspectors on the field, which are permanently surveying the production to ascertain whether or not applications are in line with Besiktas Shipyard’s safety procedures. In case of any violation, the system analyses the root cause of the particular problem, defines, carries out the corrective action, the relevant trainings and records the results. Additionally, the procedure requires further follow-up of the system, such as, classifying the nature of incidents, frequency of them in order to achieve a better safety management system. One significant application of HSE is that the every single newcomer to Besiktas Shipyard from all different levels, including all subcontractors and their workers, is obliged and must to go through a half day shipyard orientation, familiarization and safety training. According to training procedure, the frequency of this training is one year and at the end of this period this become void so that the same person is receiving a new refreshment training in order to be able to gain his acceptance to work again in the Besiktas Shipyard.
