Besiktas Shipyard

Turks Win Quartet / 30.03.2009

Turkish shipyard Besiktas Gemi Insaa Sanayi has sealed a EUR 60m ($79m) deal for four LPG ships.

The contract with Italy’s Gas and Heat will see the 3,360-cbm vessels delivered from early 2010, local media reported.

The ships will be built at the company’s yard in Yalova, but it is not an entirely new deal.

Gas and Heat, based in Livorno, was originally building the vessels for Greece's Vafias group at Turkey's Berk Shipyard, but Vafias cancelled the contracts due to big delays.

Now the Italian company is taking the hulls and finishing them for their own account at Besiktas.

The four ships were originally ordered in July and October 2006 for delivery in February and April 2009.
