Besiktas Shipyard

Ten for Turks / 28.10.2009

Turkey’s Palmali group has signed up for ten new 7,050-dwt tankers at the domestic Besiktas Gemi Insaa Anonim Sirketi shipyard.

The owner said the contract is costing $200m, with delivery of the Armada RST22M-type river-sea vessels starting in December 2010.

The company already has 15 Armada vessels in its fleet or on order, the last five of which are being built by Krasnoye Sormovo in Russia.

A distinctive feature of the design is the use of screw-steering columns as a single means of movement and steering.

The vessels are 139.95 metres long.
